Privacy policy

The DilemmaMatch app (“DilemmaMatch”) has been developed by the “Bright Side of Life” in Breukelen, The Netherlands (hereafter “BSL”, “we” or “us”).

Our Privacy policy explains how information about you is collected, used and disclosed when you use our websites, mobile applications and other online products and services (collectively, the “DilemmaMatch services“) or when you otherwise interact with us.

BSL reserves the right to change or modify this Privacy policy at any time, at our sole discretion. If we make changes or modifications to this Privacy policy, we will provide you with notice of such changes via the DilemmaMatch app by updating the “Last Updated” date at the head of this document on the DilemmaMatch website, and as displayed within the DilemmaMatch app. Your continued use of DilemmaMatch following the posting of changes or modifications will confirm your acceptance of such changes or modifications. Therefore, you should frequently review this Privacy policy to understand the policies that apply to your use of DilemmaMatch services. If you do not agree to an amended policy you must stop using the Services.

Collection of information

We collect information you provide directly or indirectly when you create an account, or use DilemmaMatch services.

Using DilemmaMatch app

When you access or use the DilemmaMatch app, we automatically collect information about you, including:

Facebook: When you login to DilemmaMatch for the first time, we ask permission to receive the following information from your Facebook profile: id, name, first name, last name, gender, locale, age range, profile picture and cover photo. We currently use only your id/name, profile picture and cover photo. We optionally request your birthday (if available) and location, We do not at any time have access to your username or password for Facebook, nor do we post to Facebook without your explicit permission.

Usage information: We collect information about your use of the app in order to ensure we can provide the best possible service. We also save your Dilemma answers in a database in order to match your answers with other DilemmaMatch users, it’s how we find like-minded “Soulmates”.

Device information: We may collect information about the computer or device you use to access our Services, including the hardware model, operating system and version, and mobile network provider information.

YouTube: When you create or add videos to dilemmas, we will upload your videos to YouTube under the DilemmaMatch account using the YouTube API services. We do not include any personal information with the uploaded videos. The Google Privacy Policy applies to all videos you add to dilemmas.

DilemmaMatch for iOS

DilemmaMatch for iOS will ask for your consent to access your camera, image and video library and voice recorder, to help you add images, videos and audio to dilemmas.

DilemmaMatch for Android

DilemmaMatch for Android will ask for your consent to access your camera, and your file system. Once again, just to help you add media to any dilemmas you may create.

Use of information

We may use information about you for various purposes, including to:

  • Notify you about new (potential) Soulmates, or introduce you to new Soulmates;
  • Provide, monitor, maintain and improve our Services, including the design, development and promotion of new features and content;
  • Respond to your comments, questions and requests and provide customer service;
  • Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts and support and administrative messages;
  • Monitor and analyze trends, usage and activities in connection with our Services;
  • Personalize and improve the Services and provide advertisements (free/promo versions only), content or features that match user profiles or interests;
  • Detect, investigate and/or prevent fraudulent, unauthorized or illegal activity; and
  • Support market research and research and development projects for new Services, Apps and other products.
  • We will at no time provide your information to third parties solely for the purposes of direct marketing/mailing.
  • BSL and DilemmaMatch are based in the Netherlands and the information we collect is governed by the law in The Netherlands.

Sharing of information

We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this privacy policy:

With users and others who view your profile, which includes your username, and other information you publish as part of your Facebook profile (location, profile photo, cover photo and age), Soulmate “score” (your match with others), the number of dilemmas you have answered, the number of dilemmas you have created, and the number of Soulmates;

With consultants and other service providers who need access to such information to carry out work on our behalf;

In response to legal process or a request for information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with any applicable law, rule, or regulation, or as otherwise required by any applicable law, rule or regulation;

In order to investigate or remedy potential violations of our user agreements or policies, or to protect the rights, property and safety of The Bright Side of Life;

In connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company; and

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information, which cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

Analytics services provided by others

We may allow others to provide analytics services on our behalf. These entities may use cookies, web beacons and other technologies to collect information about your use of the Services and other websites, including your IP address, web browser, pages viewed, time spent on pages, links clicked and conversion information. This information may be used to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content and better understand your online activity.

Account information

You may update or correct information about yourself by editing your account settings (Interests) within DilemmaMatch, or by modifying your Facebook profile.

Note that we may retain certain information as required by law, for legitimate business purposes, or as part of our regular retention practices. We may also retain cached or archived copies of information about you for a certain period of time.

Your options

Content: Certain features of DilemmaMatch request access to content that may be stored on your device, ie to send or upload images, video or audio. We access such content only when specifically requested by you, and at no other time. If you decide to revoke your consent and prevent us from accessing your images, video, audio files, or file system (Android only), you can do so by either changing the settings on your device (if this settings option is provided by your device operating system), or by following the standard uninstall process and removing DilemmaMatch from your device.

On iOS devices, you can grant or revoke your consent at any time and prevent us from continuing to access your images, videos, audio and locations by changing the settings on your device.

Cookies: Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. If you prefer, you can usually choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of our website.

Push notifications/alerts: DilemmaMatch may send push notifications or alerts to your device. You can deactivate these messages at any time by changing the notification settings on your device (iOS) or by changing your settings within our Services (Android).
